Don't Stress When It's Time To Fly The Nest

Is it time for you to move out for the first time? If you’ve lived with your parents forever and suddenly it’s time to go it alone, you may be feeling frightened, along with all kinds of other emotions. It’s important you don’t stress when it’s time to leave home. This should be an extremely exciting time for you! Here are a few things you can do to make the transition easier:

Plan Ahead
You might be sick and tired of living in your family home and more than ready to move out, but you need to make sure you plan ahead. You should give yourself at least 8 weeks to get everything in place. You’ll need furniture, cash to make sure you have enough to live if something expected pops up, and a chance to get other things in order.

Practice Good Habits Before You Leave
Don’t move out before you’ve ever used the washing machine or cooked your own dinner. Get into these good habits before you leave so you feel more confident and less stressed about the whole thing. Moving out can feel great, but not when you’re wearing dirty clothes and have toast for every meal.


Know That It Isn’t Goodbye
This won’t be goodbye to your parents, so don’t get upset. Arrange a time to say goodbye properly; maybe you could all go for a meal to celebrate. Make arrangements to see them regularly afterwards if possible too. Talk about how you’ll see each other in a realistic way so you don’t feel too sad.

Enlist Help From Family And Friends
Don’t try to do this all alone, as you may get overwhelmed. Enlist help from your family and friends. They’ll probably be more than happy to help you out. De-clutter Your Stuff
Before you move out, attempt to declutter your stuff so you only move in with the stuff you really use and want to keep. Try not to be a hoarder and look at things objectively. You may even be able to make some extra cash by selling your old stuff!

Take Care Of Your Health
Make sure you take care of your health. Manage your stress levels, eat well, and get plenty of sleep. Now isn’t the time to get sick!

Prepare For A Weird Few Weeks/Months
You’re going to feel a little uprooted for a while, so prepare for a weird feeling few weeks or months. It’ll settle and you’ll start to love living in your own place!

Moving out for the first time can feel strange, but remember, anxiety isn’t always a bad thing. It doesn’t mean you’re making a bad decision. It simply means you don’t know what to expect. Try to let go of your worries and see everything going right!
