Review: Bioglan Supergreens Powder - Berry Burst

I've been wanting to try this for a while and I finally picked this up from Holland and Barrett last week. Supergreens is absolutely packed with ingredients that will benefit your body. It's also dairy free, gluten free and wheat free which is great. Some of  the ingredients in Supergreens Berry Burst include:

  • Spirulina
  • Chlorella
  • Beetroot
  • Pea Protein
  • Acai Juice
  • Goji Berry Juice
  • Kale

Berry Burst has less ingredients than the original one. It has 16 portions of fruit and veg per portion though which is fab, what a great start to the day. I decided on the berry flavour as I suspected that it would probably taste better than the green one. The packet states that you can add 2 teaspoons to 200ml water or juice - as I wanted to use this as a stand-alone drink so I added it to water.

This is what it looked like after shaking it for around a minute (I got this shaker free from Holland and Barrett for buying Supergreens). It's quite thin and watery, a lot thinner than I expected. I was fairly disappointed with the flavour of the drink. It has a pretty strong stevia flavour, with a feint hint of generic berry flavouring. It really is super sweet and not in a particularly good way, you can also taste the spinach/kale/kelp which is a little unpleasant.

Despite it tasting a bit gross, I will use this to give me a boost in the morning. I will not be repurchasing it though as it's very expensive considering that it doesn't make a very pleasant drink.

Review: Superfoodies Brown Granola - Cacao Nibs and Maca

I've been eyeing this up for a while and finally decided to order it online. This granola is raw and organic, it's also gluten free. The one that I tried was the brown variety - packed with almonds, dates, walnuts, cacao and maca. The other flavours include coconut and spirulina, and goji and acai. I was hoping that this granola would give me a nice boost in the morning, and that it would taste good too!

I poured a 30 gram serving into my bowl and added some Coconut Easiyo. I'm glad that I had this with yoghurt as it definitely needed the extra sweetness, cacao is quite bitter so it went well with the creaminess of the coconut. Overall, I thought it was really yummy. The granola itself is quite chunky with whole almonds covered in cacao - it has quite a bit of bite. I would recommend this, but I do think that the price tag is a little hefty. I would buy this regularly if it was cheaper but it will only be an occasional treat for me.

Recipe: Nourishing Sea Salt Spray

I wanted a salt spray which wasn't too drying on my hair so I decided to make my own. It was pretty successful and I've been using it everyday since I made it.

Ingredients (to make 100ml)
1 heaped teaspoon of coconut oil
1 heaped teaspoon of argan oil
1 teaspoon of course sea salt
1 teaspoon of your favourite leave in conditioner (I used Aussie Luscious Long)
80ml very warm water
1 spray bottle

1. Use a measuring jug or cup, pour in the water and salt and stir until it's dissolved.
2. While the water is still very warm, stir in the coconut oil.
3. Stir in the argan oil and the leave in conditioner.
4. Use a funnel to transfer the liquid into your spray bottle.
5. Enjoy!

You may need to shake your bottle a little before using as the oils tend to rise to the top if you don't use it for a bit. Even if it looks a bit uneven in the bottle, it always applies well and scents my hair beautifully. The scent of coconut oil and Aussie together is pretty lovely so I've been obsessed with using this!!

Review: Barry M Flawless Matte Finish Foundation

I picked up this foundation as I've never actually tried any Barry M face products. Their nail polishes and dazzle dusts are amazing, and I love their liquid eyeliners too!

So, this foundation is oil-free and promises a matte look. In my experience, it doesn't live up to this promise. It's actually quite oily and makes my face pretty greasy which is weird. I have to use a lot of powder to set this and make it look matte or my face ends up shiny.

Don't get my wrong, this foundation is okay - I use it for work and when I have to nip out but don't want a naked face. It's not flawless or matte though as it provides sheer coverage at best and leaves the skin quite oily.

This might work for some who are after a sheer coverage foundation and have extremely dry skin, but it isn't really a favourite of mine.

How to: Self Esteem!

Self esteem is something that I think at least everybody lacks at one point in their lives. For me, the key thing is not to let others define your self worth. Rejection is something that we will have to face at numerous points in our lives, be it prospective partners or university places. It is important that we don't let such rejection define who we are.

Failing to engage in a romantic relationship does define how desirable you are and failing to secure a particular job does not define your ability to be successful. Learn to love yourself for your unique qualities, and for what you as a person can bring to the table. Don't feel bad about loving yourself either because it's a great place to be.

There's no shame in admitting that you look hot in that selfie or treating yourself to something nice that you want. Valuing yourself and valuing others are intrinsically linked so having the ability to truly appreciate yourself leads to you being more kind and positive in your dealings with others.

Review: LUSH Big Solid Conditioner

I am a fan of LUSH's Big Shampoo so I thought I'd better try the conditioner. I love solid products so this is ideal for me. It's packed full of sea salt, sea weed and nourishing coconut and jojoba oils. Sea salt helps to add volume to the hair, and sea weed strengthens it. Coconut and jojoba oils help to soften the hair and make it nice and shiny.

You only need to use a tiny bit of this conditioner. I rub it into the ends of my hair and I love how the sea salt feels - it's so invigorating, melting into my hair and helping to give it a nice amount of volume. I really really love this conditioner. It's a little pricey which I why I don't use it every time I wash my hair. I am considering making my own with sea salt, coconut oil and other ingredients as this stuff really is magical. I will be sure to post a recipe if I do create one!

Review: Higher Living Green Tea Coconut

I drink a lot of green tea, and I also love coconut... so when I saw this product I got a little excited. They are mesh pyramids which the company call 'teapees' (:P) - they are biodegradable which is great.

Inside the tea bags, there's lots of large dried leaves. It looks very high quality and smells very coconutty. I infuse the teabag in boiling water for around 2 minutes, and that is definitely enough time. The green tea is organic and it certainly shows, YUM!

The flavour is gorgeous. I can only describe the taste as high quality green tea with a natural sweetness which has a noticeable coconut note. There is also lychee inside these tea bags so that adds a unique sweetness to the tea.

Review: Garbanzo Dry Roasted Chickpeas (Tomato, Garlic & Herb and Bombay Firecracker)

These are basically dry roasted chickpeas which are coated in various different flavourings. They are pretty low calorie and actually take ages to eat so you end up feeling quite full after having a packet (probably because of all the protein too!)

I've been loving these snacks recently, chickpeas are so tasty and it's great that these are so convenient. They are great for a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack. I have also soaked them and then had them in salads which is absolutely gorgeous and a great change from tinned chickpeas.

I would recommend that you try these if you like chickpeas. Some of them can be a little hard though - but they are too yum to care.

Review: Umberto Giannini Frizzi Miracle Worker with Argan Oil

I often suffer with dry ends and sometimes a bit of frizz after a few days of not washing it. I am constantly brushing my hair and styling it, which definitely takes its toll.

I was browsing the premium hair care section in Boots and noticed this product by Umberto Giannini which is one of my most loved brands.

This product claims to transform frizzy hair. It's great for cold weather as my hair decides to rebel when it's windy and rainy. It's so difficult to quickly style it in a way which will protect it from such weather when I'm rushing trying to get ready for work in the morning.

I am in love with this product! The scent is A-MAZING, and using a small amount really helps to smooth and protect my hair. My hair is shiny and frizz free when I use this, with the lovely scent lingering in my hair all day long. One pump is enough for my waist length hair so this bottle will last me ages.

Review: Wild About Beauty Eyeshadow in Rowan

Wild About Beauty infuses products with botanical extracts. This eyeshadow contains aloe vera, vitamin E and vitamin C. These are greatly beneficial for the skin, especially our delicate eye area. So it's pretty neat that this eyeshadow can actually act as skincare. It's also paraben free which is a plus.

This is in the shade Rowan. Honestly, it's not as pigmented as other products that I've used. I have to swipe a few times with my brush before I begin to apply it, the colour needs to be built up quite a bit. It's a really pretty colour though, and the fact that it's good for my skin makes up for the lack of pigmentation. The packaging and little bee pressed into the shadow is beautiful - it is evident that this is a high quality product.

I would recommend that you check out their products, but bare in mind that if you are solely concerned with colour payoff then you may be disappointed with this range. However, those of you who love natural cosmetics should definitely look into trying Wild About Beauty (their lipglosses have great reviews also!).

Chit Chat: Being Yourself!

You may have noticed that I've stopped starting my posts with 'girls' 'dolls' etc. My boyfriend pointed out that my audience may not be solely female and I thought on it and wondered why I hadn't thought of that myself?

I've studied Sociology for years so I'm well aware of the pressures that individuals are under to conform to strict gender stereotypes so why didn't I realise that boys might want to read about health, beauty and lifestyle posts just as much as girls?

SO, that got me thinking... we're under so much pressure to have certain characteristics and achieve set goals - and why does it matter? Going to university doesn't make you any more intelligent than someone who hasn't been. And being a size 8 doesn't make you any happier than a plus sized girl.

Anyone who's reading this, just know that I love you all no matter your race, age or gender! Always be yourself and never change to please anyone else. If you wanna drop out of college and be a zoo keeper then go ahead. If you're 50 and want to dye your hair blue and get tattoos then go ahead and rock that look!

I know it might sound easier said than done to be yourself in a judgmental world but in time it will get easier. Being comfortable in your own skin will give you so much pleasure and it's definitely worth fighting for.

Feel free to email me if you want to chat about anything - I'm always willing to give you guys advice or just be there for you! My email address is listed on this website :)

Review: Granovita Meat Free Pepperoni

So, I've finally found a product which is comparable to actual pepperoni! This meat-free pepperoni is gorgeous with pasta, on pizza or just on its own as a snack.

It's made from wheat protein, egg protein and soya (so it's unfortunately not vegan). It has little lumps of rice inside to mimic the fat which is inside a pepperoni, when it's cooked you really can't tell the difference.

This has a high protein content so it's great for a healthy and satisfying on-the-go snack. Definitely give this a go if you're veggie and looking to replace meat with something tasty!

Review: Twinings Cherry Bakewell Tea

This tea caught my eye in the supermarket, so I had to give it a go. Twinings generally make lovely teas so I was excited to try this one.

When I made this tea, I could definitely detect a 'pastry' scent along with the cherry. The taste was just like cherry though... without the bakewell part! Nevertheless, it's a lovely tea which I'm sure I will enjoy regularly alongside my other fruit teas.

Review: LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub

Lip scrubs are essential for me as I get incredibly dry lips which eventually crack and bleed (gross!). LUSH's lip scrubs are all gorgeously scented and infused with moisturising and nourishing ingredients. Best of all, they're pretty natural - all they contain is jojoba oil, sugar and flavouring!

The bubblegum one smells like creamy candy bubble bar which is gorgeous. It's super sweet and really fun :) It tastes like candy floss which is lovely.

This scrub really does work. Using this everyday creates a perfect base for my lipstick, and my lips don't feel so flaky and dry. It's definitely worth checking these out if you suffer from dry lips like me - using this and then applying lots of lip balm before bed is the best feeling ever!

Review: The Body Shop Hand Cleanse Gel (Hand Sanitiser)

Hi girls!

Hand sanitiser is something that I use on a daily basis, it's pretty essential when working in retail. Over time, my hands began to dry out as I was buying large bottles of cheap antibacterial gel without looking at the ingredients.

A few months ago, I decided to try The Body Shop's offering. I am pleased to say that I am really impressed with their Hand Cleanse Gel range!

I usually use either Satsuma or Coconut - the scents are amazing. I go through them like craaaazy! As well as smelling great, they contain conditioning ingredients such as castor oil which means that they don't dry the skin out. There is no triclosan in these as well, so they are a lot less harsh than other hand sanitisers you can buy.

I really recommend these. They smell absolutely gorgeous and haven't dried my hands out at all. I love The Body Shop too because they're against animal testing and they also support free trade. What's not to love here?

Review: Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo

So, the idea of Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo is to prevent hair loss by stimulating the hair follicle with caffeine. You're supposed to leave the shampoo on for around 2 minutes, by which time the active ingredient will have absorbed into the scalp. The roots of the hair are said to be strengthened due to this process. In fact, this shampoo is supposed to stimulate hair growth.

I was attracted to this shampoo due to the plethora of positive reviews that I've seen online. I have waist length thick hair, but I want it to grow quicker! My hair does shed a little, but I'm certainly not going bald or anything like that.

I tried this out over a period of 2 months, using 3 times a week and leaving it on for at least 2 minutes each usage. The scent is a generic herbal scent, similar to Radox or Badedas, and it foams up nicely. Unfortunately, it dried my hair out and did nothing in terms of growth and reduced shedding. Perhaps I should have given it longer but I don't want dried out hair! For the price, I can definitely find much better shampoos.

How to: Overnight Oats with Easiyo

Here is my recipe for Overnight Oats with Easiyo. I experiment a lot and add different ingredients, but here is one of my faves

What it should look like BEFORE you put it in the fridge

2 tablespoons of jumbo/whole oats (or three tablespoons of rolled oats)
3 heaped tablespoons of Strawberries and Cream Easiyo
4 sliced strawberries

1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl, ensuring that they are well mixed and that all the oats are coated with yogurt. Disperse the sliced strawberries evenly.
2. Leave in the fridge overnight, covered with foil or cling film. (I make this at 10pm for eating at 7am)

You can adapt this recipe however you like! Blueberries and Cream Easiyo with fresh blueberries is yummy. Or just plain Easiyo with honey added in the morning. You don't even need to use Easiyo, any yoghurt will do really.

Review: S'mores Poptarts

Poptarts aren't something that I eat a lot of as an adult. Poptarts were a firm childhood favourite. I try not to overload on sugar but I like the odd sweet snack mid-morning for a bit of energy. I am a bit of a sucker for junk food really, but I try to be good :P

Anyways enough jabbering on, I spied these in the shop and had to grab them as S'mores are yummy. I toasted them according to the instructions on the packet. They were nice and warm, with melty strips of chocolate and marshmallow inside. Mmmmmmm... :) The marshmallow inside is sooo good.

They were yum! I would recommend them if you like Poptarts.

Review: Hilltop Honey (Raw Wildflower Honey)

Hilltop Honey is a company that I really admire. It produces raw honey and ensures that British bees are kept alive and kicking! They offer a bee adoption service as well as the opportunity to have your own bee hive. It's great to see a company that cares about the environment and our wildlife. Hilltop Honey also sell their raw honey infused with ginger or chilli (they sound lush!).

The health benefits of raw honey are greater than that of pasturised honey. By consuming pure raw honey, we are getting benefits from the pollen. This can include the reduction of allergenic symptoms when coming into contact with pollen. Bee pollen is actually classed as a superfood. It is thought to protect our cells from free radicals.

So, on to how the product tastes... OH MY! This honey is gorgeous. It is a set honey but it can be made runny by placing the jar into a bowl of warm water. Hilltop Honey truly is really tasty and I can't wait to try the other varieties. I will definitely be repurchasing this honey, it is absolutely lush.

Please go and try this! You will not regret it. It's available from Holland and Barrett or online at

Review: Bioglan Red Krill Oil

I have been loving Red Krill Oil over the past few months. Krill Oil is a concentrated source of Omega-3 oil, which has great benefits in terms of brain function, heart health and vision. Krill Oil also contains Omega 9 which contributes to maintaining a normal level of metabolism and aids the body in hormone regulation.

The particular supplement that I take is 'Bioglan Red Krill Oil Women's Health'. It contains added Iron and B6 which are great for energy, with B6 aiding in maintaining normal hormonal activity. Zinc is also contained which helps to ensure that our hair, skin and nails are healthy. Additionally, Zinc helps us to sustain a healthy immune system.

photo from
Before taking Red Krill Oil, I took a Multivitamin with Iron, Cod Liver Oil, Sea Kelp and Evening Primrose Oil. I now only need to take my Multivitamin (without Iron), Red Krill Oil and Sea Kelp. I am getting enough essential fatty acids from the Krill Oil, so I am able to omit the Cod Liver Oil and the Evening Primrose Oil.

Taking Red Krill Oil has greatly simplified my supplement intake. I feel great - totally mentally alert and energised! I recommend trying Krill Oil out, I am loving it. Hopefully I will see some long-term effects too, perhaps in terms of improved vision.

Review: Dr Organic Snail Gel (Available at Holland and Barrett)

Morning ladies!

So, most people are a bit squeamish when they first hear about snail gel. I was too, I pulled a face and was pretty certain I'd never try it. But I obviously did, hence why I'm bringing this review to you.

I have been using this product since just before Christmas, so around 4 months. I use it on my damp face when I get out of the shower in the morning, and before I go to bed at night (underneath moisturiser).

I really enjoy using this product. It's not heavy at all, but it's nourishing and hydrating. The scent is slightly citrus-sy, but it has a bit of depth to it. I can't really put my finger on what the other scent is but it contains lots of essential oils..

Snail gel isn't gross at all, and it's ethical too so that's a plus. I would recommend that you go and try this out. I can't really comment on any long-term effects of using the product as I've only used it for a few months.

Dr Organic have also released other Snail products such as an eye cream, face mask and hand cream too! I have been using the eye cream so I will post a full review of that one soon.
